Kids get the most out of Flybe Community Cup
YOUNGSTERS from across Hampshire put on a fine display of football at St Mary's on Sunday in the Flybe Community Cup six-a-side finals.
The 28 winners of the regional qualifiers battled it out on the glorious surface throughout the day.
And they were given an extra special incentive, with Saints legend Matt Le Tissier on hand to watch them, as well as current players Kelvin Davis and Andrew Surman.
All three took time out to sign autographs for the children, while Le Tissier presented the winners with their awards.
Hulbert School took the boys' title, while Oakley School were crowned girls' champions.
Saints in the Community's Mark Abrahams said everyone who took part was a winner, though.
"As an event and spectacle, it went really well," he said.
"The main thing is that the children have benefited from that experience and they all went away happy.
"There were some good players on show and it was very well contested.
"It was a very good standard and a good reflection on grass roots football in Hampshire.
"It was a great experience for the kids to play on the hallowed turf and hopefully it is something that will live with them for a long time."
The competition was organised by Saints in the Community, the Daily Echo, Flybe and Hampshire County Council.

What a fantastic achievement for Oakley girls who are now Hampshire 6-A-Side and 7-A-Side champions! At the start of the year they sat down together and set targets to win one Hampshire title in either cricket or football and to play at St Mary's and the Rose Bowl. Their commitment to each other and towards achieving their objectives has made their school, parents and coaches incredibly proud of them all.

Are any of the girls free on Monday night? I might have a couple of spaces in a team!
