Sales: VTFC should walk the league
 |
| Paul Sales |
PAUL Sales has jokingly promised to hang up his boots if his new club, VT FC, don't walk the Sydenhams Premier Division next season.
No sooner had the 34-year-old been released by Eastleigh on Saturday than he was on the phone to his long-time admirer, VT boss Dave Diaper, to request a move to the ambitious Portsmouth Road outfit, who finished runners-up to Wessex champions Totton this term.
"If VT don't get promoted next season, I'll hang my boots up! With the squad they've got, it's got to be impossible for them not to finish top next season.
"They should walk the league and do well in the Vase," said the ex-Bashley and Salisbury targetman, who scored 15 goals in 35 league and cup appearances for Eastleigh after re-joining them from Salisbury last August.

Good to see another player who wants an easy life and loads of bucks.
Does everybody who is past it at Eastleigh just ring Diaper as they leave the building.
Still thats the mortgage sorted for the next couple of years.
Top man Dave we all love you. How about a signing on fee.

Is Paul Doswell coming to VT now then?
It seems quite possible.

Spitfire Man - nice comment.
Nice to slate players who for the major part gave everything they had for Eastleigh when at the club. These players were deemed surplus to requirements at Eastleigh do you not think it would be more fair to recognise their efforts for your club and wish them well for the future.
Or would you rather sit in the bar drinking yourself into a splendor and abusing anything and everything that is put in front of you?

What a lovely thought!! Drinking yourself into a splendor, could coin an entirely new phrase "i was totally splendid last night".
Why doesn't the Echo ask where the money comes from at VT? No crowd, less commercial activity than Debenhams and no hope of ever sustaining themselves at a decent level if they had to pay the wages that they could actually afford - or is Wendy too busy getting players in for them to ask?

I'm not sure Spitfire man is a Eastleigh fan
I would imagine Dave Diaper subsadises the team through his company. plus Vospers bloody big company

It could be VT's new motto? It could be printed under the badge on the shirts. Dave, are you listening??[italic]italic[/italic]

Not really fella, as i'm sure that it is not just me that see's WG's dance of death with Doswell being repeated at VT - who knows you might even get to pass them on the way down as you rise through the leagues.
Helped no-doubt by the ever helpful WG tapping up as many players for you as possible, and still the Echo sports Editor would not see it as being unprofessional or indeed such behaviour being a conflict of interests.
Any football club cannot run solely on egos, money and supporters must factor into it somewhere for it to have any chance of being viable long-term.
Eastleigh gave it a good go as they too started from a tiny fanbase but they look a little vulnerable to unravelling at the minute, and you seem to want to emulate them them from an even smaller starting point and no real fanbase to appeal too either.
It does seem folly for anyone at VT to think that they can do an "Eastleigh" when they themselves are struggling with it - it'll all end in tears & VT will be lucky to end up with a proper works team by the time the egos have run their course.
It's not sour grapes or jealousy that makes me think that but it just plain facts - the non-league scene is littered with corpses of clubs that have been hi-jacked by people who have a dream only to leave it high and dry when reality bites.
If you are a genuine fan and not one of the egos be very careful what you wish for - the Wessex is a fantastic level for a club of your size to play at and no mean achievement to stay there under your own steam. As you rise higher it's further to fall and the further the drop the less the likelihood is of survival.

Thats a fairly hefty accusation your making against WG Noneleaguer, hope your legal team have sharp pencils and that you have deep pockets.
I am not sure quite why you think VT are looking at Eastleigh for inspiration can't say I have heard anyone from VT suggesting that this was the case but no doubt you can dig out some quotes on that.
I would take issue with your fanbase logic as based on your view that a club is only sustainable based on its fanbase then none of our local teams would get beyond Southern League except for Saints of course but then thats not what football is all about is it.
I agree there are lots of false dawns for many clubs but as long as someone has a dream and is willing to run with it then we wouldnt have had, Accrington, Ebslfeet and latterly MK Dons making a fist of it, that afterall is what football is about and makes it the game it is.
