Eastleigh’s poor away form continued as they were beaten 2-1 by Sutton.
Eastleigh brought in recently signed goalkeeper Ross Flitney at the expense of Jack Dovey, the only change to the starting line-up. Early on James Folks had a shot blocked for the home team Marvin Williams then put in a cross that no one could get a decisive touch to.
Eastleigh fell behind in the 41st minute when a penalty was awarded for handball and it was converted by Sam Rents. Eastleigh went close a couple of time in the latter stages of the half, especially with one header from Chris Todd following a corner.
During the second-half they forced Sutton to defend deeply for long periods but they could not get the decisive breakthrough although Dale Binns had one header tipped over the bar and came close with another effort having come on as substitute.
Eastleigh also had a strong penalty appeal turned down. Sutton made it 2-0 eight minutes from time when Craig Dundas converted a corner.
Shortly afterwards James Stuart received a second yellow card and earlier Eastleigh manager Richard Hill had been sent to the stands.
In added on time Damian Scannell scored a consolation goal for Eastleigh but it was too late to rescue a point.
