Chris Todd has joined the likes of Bob Geldof this Christmas by recording a charity single.

The Eastleigh centre back suffered with chronic myeloid leukaemia – which affects white blood cells – six years ago.

Since then he’s written a book, More Than Football in the Blood, and organised several events to help raise vital cash for cancer research.

Now, taking time out of playing for the Spitfires in the Vanarama Conference, Todd has picked up the microphone, with his brother in law Thomas Watson, to raise cash for charity.

The 33-year-old’s aim is to help save the lives of blood cancer patients.

“This is no ordinary charity single; it’s about cancer and the battle to survive,” he told the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research charity.

"It's about my personal battle fighting this horrendous illness in the early stages.

“It expresses my true thoughts and feelings and I hope will touch so many who are facing the everyday battles against leukaemia and other cancers.

“The song is written and performed from the heart to touch the heart by the special talent that is Tom Watson and we hope this single can produce magic and make a lot of money for this amazing charity.”

The Welshman, who helped Eastleigh to the Conference South title last term, is donating the proceeds of the song, called Save Me, to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
