EASTLEIGH remain fifth in the Vanarama Conference – despite not kicking a ball on Saturday.

The Spitfires’s scheduled fixture at FC Halifax Town was called off shortly after 9am due to a frozen pitch and snow at The Shay.

Chasing Woking were unable to capitalise, held 0-0 at home by second-placed Bristol Rovers, while Kidderminster crashed 2-0 at home to Macclesfield.

Forest Green Rovers are up to sixth on level points with Eastleigh – on-loan Spitfire Stuart Fleetwood playing 81 minutes of a 2-1 win at Braintree where Jon Parkin scored both FGR goals.

Meanwhile fourth-placed Grimsby Town put the cat among the title pigeons by inflicting a 3-1 defeat on league leaders Barnet in the televised game at Blundell Park.

It was the first time Martin Allen’s Bees had lost back-to-back games this season after Lincoln had punished them 4-1. It leaves Barnet static on 62 points, 15 ahead of Richard Hill’s Eastleigh who have three games in hand.

Ex-Havant & Waterlooville striker Ollie Palmer was among the Grimsby scorers, having joined the Mariners on loan from Mansfield.

Eastleigh will get another turn in the television spotlight next month with their home game against Macclesfield on February 28 to be aired on BT Sport with a 12.45pm kick-off.

It will be their second time on the small screen this season. They first welcomed the cameras in back in August when the now departed Ben Wright grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Aldershot Town.
