Eastleigh have offset the departure of Yemi Odubade with the signing of Dan Walker from Vanarama Conference rivals Braintree Town.

Odubade, whose playing chances have been limited this term at the Spitfires, left on a temporary deal to Woking at the same time Walker, arrived on Stoneham Lane on loan until the end of the season.

The January transfer window, which slams shut tomorrow night at 11pm, saw a flurry of early movement by the Spitfires as they looked to bolster their numbers ahead of a push for a play-off berth.

Free agent Brian Howard and AFC Bournemouth’s Joe Partington arrived at the Silverlake Stadium within the first week of 2015.

Soon after, Stuart Fleetwood departed on loan to Forest Green Rovers and Jamie Collins moved permanently to Sutton United.

But Richard Hill had remained quiet in the market after that ...

... until last week when he brought in 6ft 4in midfielder Harry Pell from AFC Wimbledon.

And before the postponed league game at Kidderminster on Saturday, Hill had signed attacking midfielder Walker.

The 24-year-old has played for Luton Town, Eastbourne Borough, Southport and Hereford and will give Eastleigh, who aren’t short of attacking firepower, another option going forward.

Walker has found his chances, much like Odubade, limited this term.

His last start for the Irons was in early November, although he did appear for the 16th-placed outfit last Tuesday in the FA Trophy as a late substitute.

He’s made 13 starts and seven sub appearances off the bench this campaign. Walker hasn’t scored since March 8 last year – when ironically he netted for Hereford against Braintree. Since then, he’s gone 28 games without finding the net.

“Looking forward to starting my loan with Eastleigh FC today,” Walker tweeted on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Odubade will look to give some fresh impetus to a Cards side that hadn’t won in the Conference since early December until Saturday’s 3-0win against Alfreton, in which the 30-year-old came on as a second half sub.

The winger arrived on the south coast in May 2013 after spells at Gateshead, Yeovil Town, Stevenage and predominantly Oxford United, where he made more than 100 appearances. He helped Eastleigh win the Skrill Conference last term, but has found chances few and far between this term, making one start all season for the Spitfires.
