Jack Midson netted twice as Eastleigh recorded their fourth away win in a row as they made a rampant second-half comeback to win 3-1 at Kidderminster Harriers in the Vanarama Conference tonight.

The Spitfires were 1-0 down at the break, but dismantled a Kiddy side without a home win in 2015 during a goal flurry that started on 59 minutes and ended as Jai Reason scored an eye-catching long-range free-kick with 20 minutes left.

An own-goal by Eastleigh centre-back Joe Partington ended a lengthy goal drought for the Harriers in the opening ten minutes, but the Silverlake Stadium side continued their play-off push.

They now sit just two points behind Forest Green Rovers in fifth after extending their away unbeaten run to seven games.

The Spitfires made one change with Ben Strevens dropping to the bench for the first time this season, allowing Dan Walker to make his first start since his January move.

Eastleigh scarcely resembled the side that famously beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 on Saturday in the first period.

Although Richard Hill’s side weren’t doing much wrong, they just couldn’t get their rhythm.

Another factor was that Kidderminster were hungry, starving in fact, for a goal that had eluded them for more than six hours of football.

In an otherwise well organised half defensively from Eastleigh, on-loan AFC Bournemouth centre-back Partington had a moment of madness that cost his side dear.

The 24-year-old needlessly headed back towards his own goal from a Craig Reid cross, completely wrong-footing goalkeeper Ross Flitney, as the ball sailed into an empty net to give the home side the goal they’d been longing for on nine minutes.

James Constable looked most likely to score for the visitors, having one effort blocked well by keeper Danny Lewis early on.

But, apart from Harry Pell going close with a header and full-back Michael Green flashing a corner across the face of goal, Harriers created far more.

The best thing about this game at the break for the 55 travelling fans was likely the outstanding pies on sale at the Aggborough Stadium.

And with their bellies full, their side were transformed – likely following a grilling from Hill at the interval – in the second period.

On 58 minutes they got their equaliser.

Midson waited patiently as the ball pinged around the box from a Jai Reason free-kick on the right.

Pell headed it down before captain Dean Beckwith scuffed goalwards, but it was the former AFC Wimbledon striker that was most alert among a forest of legs in the area, tapping home from six yards.

The comeback was then complete eight minutes later when Midson tapped home again – his 11th goal of the campaign – with a scrappy close range effort, as Beckwith headed back across the face of goal from another superb dead ball delivery from Reason.

To put the icing on the cake, Reason demonstrated his excellent finishing once more as he curled a free-kick past the outstretched arm of keeper Lewis.

Kiddy had the ball in the net late on but Jack Byrne was flagged for offside after Jamie Grimes had headed goalwards.
