WINCHESTER City turned on the second-half style to knock National League Eastleigh out of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup 2-1 tonight.

Jack Midson – one of five first-teamers in the Spitfires’ starting line-up – had his early strike wiped out by Harlan Basker in front of a 305-strong Denplan City Ground crowd.

Spitfires’ keeper Lewis Noice saved a Warren Bentley penalty and breathed a sigh of relief when Jamie Barron’s effort smacked the bar, but goal ace Bentley wasn’t to be denied as he tapped in Basker’s cross with three minutes remaining.

Winchester host Sholing in the quarter-finals.

Lymington Town’s bid to reach the HSC semi-finals came a cropper, beaten 5-3 at home by Craig Davis’s Fleet Town. Pearce Farren, Nathan Hurst and Darren Ritchie scored for ten-man Lymo, who had Ben Sullivan dismissed.

Newport IoW eased past Ringwood 4-0 to reach Sydenhams League Cup quarter-finals through Jimmi Burton (2), Joe Butcher and a Scott Jones penalty.

Meanwhile AFC Totton's hot run of ;eague form continues.

The Stags overwhelmed Wimborne Town 5-2 at Cuthbury tonight to make it 13 points banked from the last available 15 in the Southern One South & West.

Two up inside ten minutes through Nick Watts and Nathaniel Sherborne, Totton doubled their advantage with a Mike Gosney brace before Wimborne’s James Stokoe made it 4-1 at half-time.

Watts struck again from a quickly-taken Gosney free-kick on the hour, leaving ex-Blackfield striker Mark Ford to have the last word on his Magpies’ debut.

Totton, up to 12th, travel to Yate Town on Saturday.
