EASTLEIGH boss Chris Todd is looking forward to a “massive” home game against Tranmere Rovers after his side extended their unbeaten run to ten matches at Halifax Town.

The Spitfires did not get the win they needed in Yorkshire to climb into the National League’s play-off positions.

They remain on the fringes on goal difference, but Todd is confident that wins from the last two games – against Tranmere on Saturday and at Woking - can secure a place in the top five.

The visit of Tranmere, who are three points behind Eastleigh with a superior goal difference, will be the biggest game at the Silverlake Stadium since the FA Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers.

Todd said: "It’s going to be massive, it’s so tight but we’ve given ourselves a fighting chance. They’re bringing 1,000 fans so there’ll be a great atmosphere.

"I’m really excited, but hopefully there won’t be too much nervous tension because we’ve got to perform.” Todd remains confident after seeing his side take a point from The Shay, despite not being at their best.

“I’m positive, really positive. This is a very hard place to come. Halifax on a Tuesday night is tough. To think they were just going to roll over, not a chance.

“Overall they were the better side but we’ve come away with a point that keeps us in the hunt, we’re still in the mix.

“We’re in a position where if we win the next two matches and score more goals than Braintree we’re back in it.

“The lads are disappointed because they wanted to win but it’s not as easy as that.

“If it was going to be easy it would have happened by now. We’re happy with a point and are looking forward to the next two games.

“There are going to be twists and turns but I’m just looking forward to the next two now.

“We’re working hard for each other, tonight it just didn’t come off. The players are little deflated but that’s because they’re winners.

“They’ll feel a lot better in the morning. They’re desperate for it. We probably tried too hard at times but we’ve still got a great chance.

"In recent weeks our football’s been free flowing, but you can’t keep playing unbelievable.

“We came away with a result without playing great and that’s the sign of a good side. I believe that come Saturday we’ll be ready to go again.

“ That will be a massive point come the end of it."
