ADAM Dawson is Eastleigh’s fifth summer signing – and he won’t be their last.

Manager Chris Todd has two, or possibly three, more vacancies to fill with a striker and a goalkeeper top of his priority list.

“We’ve got 17 players at the minute, not including a couple of kids,” he said.

"We’ve definitely got another one or two coming in, hopefully in the next week or two, and then we can settle down and get ready for pre-season.

"There might be a few trialists coming in and, if they do well, who knows?

“We’ve got lots of good, strong competition in the squad and a lot of leaders. Hopefully it'll stand us in good stead for next season."

A former Liverpool youngster, new arrival Dawson returned to his home town club Bury before signing his first professional contract with Wigan Athletic in 2011.

Spells at Accrington Stanley (loan), FC United of Manchester, Barrow and Nelson followed before he joined Leicester City who sent him out on loan to Notts County, Nuneaton and Bristol Rovers.

Dawson's next port of call was Kidderminster Harriers from where he most recently impressed on loan at Tranmere Rovers.

Todd said: “Adam is a direct, pacy winger who is full of flair.

"His ability to create chances for other players is definitely an exciting prospect for the forthcoming season.

"We’re delighted to welcome him to the club.”

Dawson follows midfielders David Pipe and Jake Howells and defenders Richard Duffy and Adam Dugdale into Todd's new-look squad as Eastleigh aim to make it third time lucky in their bid to reach the Football League.

“You never get 100 per cent success rate with your transfer targets, but the players we’ve brought in were all on my list and I’m really pleased to have got them,” said the boss.

“We’ve got one or two more (signings) to get right but, other than that, we’re looking really strong.

“We need another striker and obviously we’ve only got one goalkeeper (Ross Flitney) at the moment with Michael Poke going.”

Frontman Matt Tubbs, who spent the latter half of last season at Eastleigh on loan from Portsmouth, is still in Todd’s thoughts, although his return of just two goals – one a penalty – could be a concern.

“Matt’s still a player with lots of talent. We’ll see what happens,” said the boss. “You never know in football.

“We’ve added quality to what we had left and I’m looking forward to working with the players.”

Transfer-listed ex-Saints left-back Dan Harding is still with the club.

"There's nothing happening at the minute," said Todd. "We'll see how it plays out."
