YORK City, Eastleigh’s visitors in the National League this Saturday (3pm), have released midfielder Franklyn Clarke by mutual consent.

The 23-year-old former Wimborne Town and Blackfield & Langley player joined the Minstermen in the summer from Dorchester Town.

He signed a one-year deal but made just two appearances for York, who sit 20th in non-League’s top tier.

Clarke has agreed terms to rejoin Southern Premier outfit Dorchester.

He said: "I want to get back to playing.

“I was treated well at Dorchester last season and enjoyed my football.

“I am happy to come back and I know I will be a big part of things there, which I have missed really.

“I had a few offers but I enjoyed my time at Dorchester last season, they were the pick of the bunch.”

Clarke is the second player to have left Bootham Crescent since new boss Gary Mills replaced Jackie McNamara three weeks ago.

His departure will free up more funds to invest in the side.

Mills is hoping to secure the signature of two more new players before Saturday's trip to the Silverlake and is still in talks with former Norwich City and St Johnstone winger Simon Lappin who trained with the club last week.

Winger Adriano Moke, defender Sean Newton, midfielder Charlie Cooper, and striker Robbie McDaid have all joined York in the last fortnight. Striker Fraser Murdoch was released.
