Eastleigh manager Martin Allen admitted he has more than enough players after handing a debut to new signing Darius Henderson in the 1-1 draw against Forest Green Rovers.

Henderson is Allen’s sixth signing since his appointment six weeks ago.

But there will be no more additions any time soon as Allen is keen to trim a squad also bolstered by the recent arrivals of Ben Strevens, Sam Togwell, Gavin Hoyte and loanees Hakeem Odoffin and Tyler Garratt.

When asked if there will be more signings soon, he said: “I don’t think so but there might be more leaving.

“We can only have five subs so there’s no point in having 24 players.”

Veteran striker Henderson, 35, played the second half against Forest Green, having signed from Mansfield earlier in the day.

“I know what he can do because he played against my team [Barnet] earlier in the season,” said Allen.

“He leads the line, brings people into play and has got courage, guts and a big, big heart. He might not be as mobile as some but has other attributes that are much needed in this team.

“With more games under his belt we can turn draws into wins.”

Allen was not too disheartened by the draw against third-placed Forest Green.

“They’re doing very, very well, they’ve scored a lot of goals and play with a lot of flair but I thought we were the better team.

“That’s three [league] games unbeaten now, which is a start. The players worked tremendously hard. If [Ben] Strevens’ header had gone in it would have been a great night.

“It wasn’t an easy game to play so soon after Brentford, when they had to do so much running, but the fresh legs came in and did well for us.

“They stuck at it but it will do them good to have some time out.”

Eastleigh are next in action at Paul Doswell’s Sutton United a week on Saturday.

They need to average around two points a game from their last 19 matches to have a chance of making the play-offs.

“There are 57 points to play for but it’s about one step at a time,” added Allen.

“I have to take into account performances like away at Southport and the first half hour at Halifax.

“I had to make changes quickly and not all will be popular.

“They’re good lads but I want wins and we’re working towards that.

"We’ve been chopping and changing but needs must.

“With people cup-tied, suspended and injured it’s been a mix-up every week. It’s been quite hard spinning the plates and keeping everyone happy.

“We were unlucky not to win at home against Boreham Wood but we’re getting harder to beat and are looking competitive.

“Over time we’ll have more flair and creativity. But when you’re not on a good run you have to dig in and that was a hard-working performance and a good point [against Forest Green].

“Anyone who watched us tonight will have seen everyone give everything.”
