SUMMER signing Danny Hollands scored the only goal of the game as Eastleigh clocked up a second pre-season win at Didcot Town yesterday.

The trip to the Evo-Stik South West club replaced the cancelled home friendly against Portsmouth which was called off to allow the new Silverlake Stadium pitch more time to bed in.

Richard Hill took a strong squad to Oxfordshire, including three trialists – ex-Saints under-18 and Aston Villa under-23 right-back Tom Leggett, former Saints Academy defender and Stoke City scholar Harvey Read and 23-year-old former Barnet and Colchester attacking midfielder Dominic Vose, latterly of Scunthorpe United.

Ex-AFC Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Crewe man Hollands grabbed the winner on the stroke of half-time, collecting the ball, back to goal, and smashing it in on the turn.

Next up for Eastleigh is a Tuesday night (July 18, 7pm) trip to Sydenhams Premier outfit Blackfield & Langley who edged AFC Totton 1-0 at Gang Warily.

Jamie White, an ex-Saints and Spitfires striker, bagged the first-half winner, bundling in a low cross from close range.

Louis Langdown’s Stags open the Testwood Stadium doors on Tuesday (7.45pm) to newly-promoted Isthmian League champions Havant & Waterlooville.

Totton’s Evo-Stik South West rivals Winchester City romped to a 4-0 win over fellow Southern League outfit Hanwell Town at the Simplyhealth City Ground.

Dan Williamson, Ben ‘Chalky’ White and Jamie Barron (penalty) put clear first-half daylight between the sides before Gareth Byres finished things off with a composed, lifted finished.

One major blot on City’s afternoon was having wideman Taz Roberts taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder. His shoulder was re-set and, thankfully, X-rays showed no break.

Winchester host Sholing on Tuesday (7.45pm) and visit Bashley on Saturday (3pm).
