Eastleigh manager Ian Baird has sensationally put star striker Andy Forbes up for sale.
Baird said he decided to transfer-list the 30 yearold Reading-born hitman, one of the club’s top earners, because “I can’t accept and won’t accept inept performances or one performance in three or four from such a big figure in the squad.”
The news will come as a shock to Spitfires supporters.
Forbes has become a real fans favourite since joining Eastleigh in 2004 from Winchester City, scoring 139 times in 254 games.
After an injury-hit 2008- 09, former Reading and Andover frontman, Forbes has scored eight goals in 16 appearances so far this term.
But his hugely impressive goals return is seemingly masking the truth for Baird who said of Forbes: “somebody who is remunerated as well as him needs to step up to the plate more often than he is.”
He added: “I said there is two ways he can look at it.
“He can say ‘ok I will leave the club’ or I will pull my socks up and prove Ian Baird wrong.
“I would love him to pull his socks up and prove me wrong.”
