Saints' one-time record signing Rory Delap has joined League Two side Burton Albion on a year-long deal, following his release from Stoke.

The 37-year-old cost £4.1 million from Derby County in 2001 and went on to make 132 appearances during his time at St Mary's, before he moved to Sunderland in 2006.

Saints have now beaten that record three times since 2012 after the signings of Jay Rodriguez for £7 million from Burnley, Gaston Ramirez and new man Victor Wanyama who were signed for £12 million from Bologna and Celtic respectively.
