Manager Mick McCarthy hailed ex-Saint David McGoldrick as one of the best strikers in the Championship after the in-form frontman helped Ipswich to their fourth consecutive win.
The Suffolk side moved up to fourth in the league with a 2-0 win over Rotherham at Portman Road.
McGoldrick's strike partner Daryl Murphy continued his own fine start to the season, nodding home from close range with just three minutes on the clock.
The lead was quickly doubled when McGoldrick picked up a short pass from Luke Hyam before unleashing a fantastic 25-yard left-foot shot into the corner of the net for his third goal of the season.
McGoldrick, 26, who was Saints’ top scorer with 12 goals when they were relegated from the Championship in 2008/09, netted 16 league and cup goals for the Tractor Boys in 2013/14.
Such form saw Leicester City linked with an £8m move for McGoldrick in the summer.
McCarthy said: “McGoldrick is arguably one of the best strikers in the league.
“He has two good feet, just one better than the other, and it was some strike.”
