Ex-Saints target: I'd love to play for Barca

GARY HOOPER GARY HOOPER

Celtic striker Gary Hooper has ambitions to play for Barcelona - but he is happy to see out his Parkhead contract.

Hooper, who scored 29 goals last season, has two years left on his contract but his agent has been in talks with the club this week over an improved deal.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Saints, who are managed by his former Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins.

Hooper hopes to play in the Barclays Premier League one day, but is not agitating for a move.

He said: "There's no rush as I am happy at Celtic.

"We have the Champions League next season which I am looking forward to.

"We have the qualifiers to come and at the moment I am looking to my two years at Celtic.

"But one day Premier League. One day England. And then one day, Barcelona. That is the aim for me.

"We are seeing where these contract talks go but as far as I am concerned I have two years left at Celtic."

Are the echo going to report on every player we've ever been linked to? Until he pulls on the red and white he shouldn't be on the saints echo website.

Staying with the sweaty's, its his loss, let move for Jordan Rhodes, would love to see him down here, where he will only get better.

Having been overlooked by Saints for the last 40-odd years, I'd like to go on record as also being willing and able to play for Barca, should they call. Please note, I was a useful rush-'keeper in my day.
And, Roy Hodgson, should you be reading this: I haven't booked a summer holiday yet.

I was not that fussed about him comming to saints. Its a bit of a gamble for the money that has been touted. However I would like him to come now because I have had far too much of Celtic supporters banging on about how "massive" thier club is!

His signing would infer that we are one step closer to Barca than Celtic!
