ENGLAND reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 tonight with a 1-0 win over Ukraine.
The result - and France's defeat against Sweden - means England finished top of Group D and now play Italy in Kiev on Sunday night at 7.45pm.
A headed goal just after half-time by Wayne Rooney, who returned to the side after serving a two-match suspension, was enough to give Roy Hodgson's men victory.
England later had a stroke of luck when a Ukrainian shot appeared to cross the line before John Terry hooked the ball clear. However television replays showed a Ukraine player had been offside in the build-up, unseen by the officials.
Former Saints stars Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both made brief appearances as second-half substitutes.
