England storm into Euro 2012 quarter-finals
9:40pm Tuesday 19th June 2012 in International By Echo Reporter
ENGLAND reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 tonight with a 1-0 win over Ukraine.
The result - and France's defeat against Sweden - means England finished top of Group D and now play Italy in Kiev on Sunday night at 7.45pm.
A headed goal just after half-time by Wayne Rooney, who returned to the side after serving a two-match suspension, was enough to give Roy Hodgson's men victory.
England later had a stroke of luck when a Ukrainian shot appeared to cross the line before John Terry hooked the ball clear. However television replays showed a Ukraine player had been offside in the build-up, unseen by the officials.
Former Saints stars Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both made brief appearances as second-half substitutes.

Hardly a storming performance, and a bit lucky to have a myopic extra official on the line. Sweden did well, how must the French be feeling?

The Ukraine goal that never was came from an offside decision that was missed by the official so shouldn't have stood anyway. And France couldn't beat a Sweden team with nothing to play for to top the group, fail to see how anyone is more deserving than England in that group. We don't have the technical ability of some teams, but we look harder to beat than in previous years
still the worst squad we have sent to a tournament that i can remember, not playing well and do not deserve to be in the 1/4's,but we are there,i do not expect to win any more games. BUT REMEMBER DENMARK IN THE 90'S AND GREECE 8 YEARS AGO PROOF THE BEST TEAM DOESN'T ALWAYS WIN anything is possible and i will not or cannot be disappointed

Sepp Blatter is now calling for urgent action on touchline technology yet Rugby has proven it works & has had it for years?
I support England no matter what sport but should it have been a draw?
Will we beat Italy?

Love how the Echo report this as local news, yet they conveniently miss out all the violence this 'sport' has created.
