Infinity have been crowned Hampshire Premier League Division One champions after annihilating strugglers Upham 9-0 at Knowle Avenue in their final match of an impressive season.

Netley Central Sports blew the title race wide open last weekend with a 4-2 win over Jody Hoare’s side with two games to go.

But after a 3-1 win over Cadnam United on Easter Monday, all Infinity had to do was avoid a slip-up against second-to-bottom Upham in their last game and they’d be crowned champions.

Boss Hoare demanded focus from his side, and they duly delivered with an emphatic display.

The floodgates opened on 27 minutes when Mark Piper struck the first of his hat-trick.

Wade Wilson and Sam Floyd both netted braces while Richard Adames and Steve Allen notched one apiece to complete the rout.

“After a season with so many twists and turns I'm delighted to get our long overdue league title,” said Hoare.

“After everything, especially with just 18 disciplinary points all season and when halfway through the season Mike Bulman (former manager) leaving for Lyndhurst and trying to take three or four of my first team.

“All that added to an already difficult season.

“It's a massive achievement and I owe it all to the lads who have been superb.

“I said to the lads before the game, if you go out there and blow this today you will never forgive yourselves.

“Make sure you go out there and leave nothing on the pitch, if you do that I'll guarantee you walk of that pitch champions.

“The lads went about the game in a really professional manor, excellent ball retention and pressure. It's a game that could of so easily gotten to a few lads, but they were excellent!

“I'd also like to give a special mention to Paul Collins our sponsor and honorary club member, he threw us a lifeline at the start of the season knowing our history and it was a huge reason behind the success.

“I cannot really take any of the credit for the season, I pick a team and ask them to play.

“The rest is up to them, and they worked their socks off for me.”

Elsewhere, Netley’s match with fellow high-fliers Cadnam was postponed on Saturday, meaning Infinity didn’t have to worry about results elsewhere.

And, in the only other game in the Hampshire second tier, Broughton ended their season on a high with a 2-0 victory over Andover Lions.

Ben Rankin and Shane Vidler found the net for the third-placed outfit.

The league’s final positions below top-spot are far from settled, however, with more than half of the league still having matches to play.
