YOUTH football managers and coaches will fall silent for the second time in as many years across Hampshire this weekend.

Following an inaugural weekend staged in 2015/16, the Hampshire FA are holding another 'Silent Weekend' on Saturday November 5 and Sunday November 6.

A statement said: "Our second Silent Weekend will promote Respect in Youth Football and showcase an attractive game that puts the needs of the players first.

"Youth & Mini Soccer fixtures taking place on 5th & 6th November will involve coaches and spectators remaining silent throughout games to raise awareness of the need to create a positive and pressure-free environment in which children can enjoy football and learn to love and develop in the game. "We hope with your support you will encourage all to take part and spread awareness of this fantastic initiative."

Not all leagues have signed up for the 'Silent Weekend', though.

The Southampton Tyro League and Portsmouth Youth League - two of the largest leagues in the county - have decided against supporting the initiative, as they did last season.

But seven leagues have signed up, including the Eastleigh & District Mini League, Testway League and the Winchester League.

The Southampton & District Girls League and the New Forest & District League have also added their names to the list.

The Peter Houseman Youth League and the North East Hants Youth League are the other two leagues who will be asking their managers and coaches to stay silent.
