Sholing KOd by Brazilian magic
6:22pm Saturday 10th November 2012 in Non League
A piece of Brazilian magic put paid to Sholing’s FA Trophy prospects against Oxford City at the Silverlake arena.
Brazilian Feipe BARCELOS who has been attracting interest from Fulham and Reading, came off the substitute’s bench to hit Oxford’s 64th minute winner.
Oxford hit Sholing with a swift counter attack, Barcelos controlling the ball on the edge of the box before sending a deflected shot past goalkeeper Matt Brown.
Sholing credited themselves well against fifth-placed Blue Square Bet North opponents, with Mike Carter testing the visitor’s goalkeeper Matt Ingram from 20 yards and Tyronne Bowers going close after side-stepping two defenders on the edge of the penalty box.
Oxford enjoyed a strong spell themselves midway through the first period, with Darren Pond twice going close.
Sholing finished strongly in a determined but ultimately unsuccessful bid to force a replay, with Kevin Brewster having two shots beaten out and Lee Wort firing into the side netting.
