AFC Totton have signed defender Bailey Cargill from AFC Bournemouth on an initial one-month loan deal.
The 17-year-old is a first-year professional and plays as a central defender or a left back.
Cargill currently plays in the Cherries development squad and won the ‘youth team, first-year player of the year award’ last season.
The defender began to make a name for himself during pre-season when he started a friendly against Bristol City.
Stags manager Steve Riley is grateful that Cargill’s capture will give him some extra squad depth.
He said: “Bailey gives us balance on the left-hand-side. We have suspensions coming up in the squad, a lot of defenders are on four bookings - we are now able to reshuffle the pack.
“We watched him play, we approached Bournemouth and asked them about two players, Bailey was one of them.
“I’ve had loan players from Bournemouth in the past. Chris Ferrett is a good friend of Eddie Howe’s, we have quite good connections there.”
Cargill will go into the squad to face Forest Green Rovers, a side two divisions above them, in the FA Trophy tomorrow.
