GE HAMBLE gave themselves the perfect boost ahead of Saturday’s FA Vase test by knocking Blue Square Bet South outfit Basingstoke Town out of the Hampshire Senior Cup last night.
The Planemakers, who entertain Sydenhams Premier rivals Blackfield & Langley in the Vase on Saturday, humbled the north Hampshire giants 1-0 at Follands Park.
The outlook seemed bleak for Hamble when Dan Turner and Liam Crook had to drop out injured and then Richard Gregory limped off with a twisted knee half an hour in.
But, having shaded a nip and tuck first half, the Planemakers won the tie early in the second when Joe Bye drilled the ball to the edge of the box and Jamie Barron hit a rising shot into the top corner.
It was another crushing blow for Basingstoke who are struggling in the Conference South relegation zone.
“Basingstoke were really motivated, but they hadn’t played for a while and were maybe a bit rusty,”
said Hamble co-boss Dave Lewis.
“But we approached the game in our own way and our lads were absolutely immense.
