BLACKFIELD & Langley’s FA Cup joy was tainted by news that experienced targetman Jamie Musselwhite is on his way out of Gang Warily.

Musselwhite has spearheaded the side with seven goals in eight Wessex games since his summer move from AFC Portchester, but he is moving house and can no longer commit to the Waterside club.

Disappointed boss John Robson said: “Jamie pulled Sam (Davies, director of football) to one side and explained he was moving house to Hayling Island and was running a boys’ team for Portchester. He said it (playing for Blackfield) was far too much what with work, his wife and kids and everything.

“It’s a massive loss.

“We’ve got a good squad and we’ve got Ekow Elliott and Jack Satterley who can play up front if needs be, but it’s not the same as having Jamie who, for me, is one of the best, if not the best, centre forwards in our league.”

It was Musselwhite who powered home Ekow Elliott’s cross to nudge Blackfield ahead in the FA Cup against Sherborne Town on Saturday.

But the Watersiders instantly lost the lead and fell 2-1 down before sub Satterley forced another Elliott delivery over the line to level matters 2-2 just after the hour.

Unhappy with his side’s performance, Robson switched from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 and the tinkering paid off when, with seven minutes remaining, Danny Young sneaked up on the blind side of the centre-half to stab home sub Danilo Cadete’s cross.

“We rode our luck,” admitted Robson. “But I’m still pleased. The result’s the one that counts.”

Blackfield, who host neighbours Fawley AFC in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup this evening, are at home to Western Leaguers Willand Rovers in the FA Cup second qualifying round on Saturday week (September 27).
