Warren Bentley notched a hat-trick inside the opening half-hour as Winchester City strolled to an 8-0 FA Vase win over Laverstock & Ford at the Denplan Stadium.

The former Alresford Town hit-man, pictured right, set the tone for a predictably one-sided affair with an unchallenged fourth minute goal for City, who turned round 4-0 up at half-time.

Bentley doubled Winchester’s lead in the 16th minute and, 90 seconds later, turned the provider for Zach Glasspool’s third.

It was back to the wall stuff for Laverstock for most of the first half – Bentley completing his hat-trick before the half-hour was up.

But in the spasmodic attacks they fielded, City did not looked entirely assured at the back – Winchester goalkeeper Jason Collins racing out from under the posts to deny Kane O’Keefe with an outstretched leg before half-time.

Mike McEnery and Bentley both hit the Laverstock woodwork before Glasspool cut in from the right to drill City 5-0 ahead soon after the break.

McEnery got Winchester City’s sixth before substitutes Adam Roberts and Geoff Dunn got their names on the score-sheet in the final stages.
