Ashley Jarvis's FA Vase fever has well and truly rubbed-off on the rest of his Folland Sports team-mates.

The striker won the Vase with Sholing last season and he has been regaling the rest of the Planemakers' team with tales of the Boatmen's march to Wembley glory.

And that is only a good thing in the eyes of manager Danny Bowers who is hoping the rest of team will catch the Vase bug.

The Folland boss plans to go big in the cup competition with the prize of a dream match at the home of football.

Bowers has got his team buzzing ahead of their second round proper match against Cornish side St Austell on Saturday (3pm).

The Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division fourth placed side won't be an easy prospect, having won 13 games in a row.

“Jarvis's experiences have really rubbed-off on the rest of the team,” Bowers said. “He's been there and done it.

“I want emulate what Sholing did.

“We've all seen what is possible and I know a lot of the other local teams will want to do the same.

“We're going to be prepared as best as possible for their visit.

“I know they will be a big strong side, but we've come off the back of a good victory against Newport and we're running off that positive.

“I'd of liked to have played again in midweek to keep up that momentum going into Saturday.

“It would have been good to have the derby against Sholing.

It is Bowers' aim to go on a cup run, but he isn't forgetting the club's progress in the Wessex Premier, where they're currently sat ninth.

“We're flying beneath the radar a bit at the moment in the league,” he said.

“There are some good teams in the league but we're unbeaten in a while and have four or five games in hand, so that makes us just off the pack at the moment.

“We haven't been beaten since we played Eastleigh at beginning of October, apart from the cup defeat to Newport, so we're going alright at the minute.”

That run has seen Bowers' beaten just once in seven games.

The manager expects his Planemakers to really take off after the festive period - as they've done in previous season.

“We're usually very good after Christmas,” he said.

“I'd expect us to be up there in the mix come the end of the season.”

A debut goal for new striker Nathan Lynch marked the Newport IOW 2-1 win that saw Jarvis pounce for a late winner after the Islanders equalised in the second half.

In other news, Folland have welcomed Wayne Boud, the Fareham winger, to their ranks and are looking to bring more new faces in soon.
