BLACKFIELD & Langley hit back from an early barrage of Brockenhurst pressure to keep their title tilt going with a 4-1 Sydenhams Premier Division win.

It was all Brock in the opening stages with Jacques Bernard firing the Foresters ahead with just five minutes gone.

But once Ekow Elliott had pulled a goal back in the 23rd minute, it all the incentive Blackfield needed to pull off an ultimately comfortable league win.

“I’ll be honest with you, for the first 15 or 20 minutes Brockenhurst got at us all round the park,”

admitted B&L boss John Robson.

“The minute we got the ball they closed everything down and we didn’t have the tempo we normally set because they were in our faces.

“They got an early goal and, after that, we had to wake up. With all due respect to Brockenhurst, we were never going to lose in the second half. The surface was good and we’ve got such good players who can knock the ball around.”

Elliott scored twice for Blackfield, as did recent signing Mark Ford from Weymouth – a player Robson has likened to ex-Winchester and Eastleigh hotshot Andy Forbes.

“Mark’s goals were both what I’d call proper goalscorer’s goals,” said the boss. “He beat the centre-half on both occasions and he’s flicked one over the keeper into the bottom corner and the other over the keeper into the top corner.”

Blackfield now host two important home cup games – against Winchester City in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup tonight and against Highworth Town in the FA Vase on Saturday.
