TOTTON & Eling built up a two-goal lead for the second successive Saturday – only to let it slide once more.

Last week they were 3-1 up at Hamworthy United before being pegged back for a 3-3 Sydenhams Premier Division draw.

This week they got their noses in front 2-0 at Andover Town but ended up losing a goal-packed encounter 5-2 at the Portway Stadium.

The bottom-of-the-table Millers, still seeking their first league win of the season, burst out of the blocks to go 2-0 up through Conor Thorne and substitute Stuart Brown – formerly of Salisbury City and Poole Town – inside the opening 34 minutes. But Andover came back with a deflected Ryan Inskip effort and Michael Dixon’s leveller just before half-time.

It stayed that way until the 79th minute when ex-Winchester powerhouse Dixon bagged his second. Mid-table Town then ran away with it as Lewis Benson and Gunner Yates weighed in. After a quiet start to the season, Dixon is getting back the sharpness which bagged him an impressive 34 goals last season in leading his side up from Sydenhams One.

“The key is that he is fit and injury-free,” said Andover manager Neil Benson.

“He started with a few niggles and we had to work hard with him to help him get his fitness back.

“But we are beginning to see the best of him again now.”

T&E return to Millers Park tonight to face seventh-placed Folland Sports, who will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-0 setback at Horndean.

Two Ashley Harris goals proved the undoing of Danny Bowers’ men in what was their first league defeat since September 23.

Horndean handed a debut off the bench to 19-year-old former Portsmouth striker Lewis Horsburgh.
