FOLLAND Sports head for AFC Portchester tonight hoping to put a “very disappointing” weekend behind them.

The sixth-placed Planemakers had been hoping to put the pressure on the Sydenhams Premier pacemakers with a routine home win over lowly Bournemouth Poppies.

But their plans backfired as they were forced to claw back from behind and scrape a late 1-1 draw.

Bournemouth seized a spectacular first-half lead with a wind-assisted long-range strike from Luke Ayrton.

The scoreline stayed that way until the 87th minute when a Follands corner was knocked down into the path of Calum Brockway, who poked in a scruffy equaliser.

With only Winchester City winning from the sides above them, Danny Bowers felt the Planemakers had missed a trick.

“It was a very disappointing result,” he said.

“But it was one of those days where their ’keeper has pulled off half a dozen great saves and we had at least three cleared off the line. The goal we did score was a scramble.

“You couldn’t knock Bournemouth’s goal. The full-back’s hit it from 20-30 yards and it’s gone in wind assisted.

“It was the only time they threatened to hurt us other then late on when our ’keeper Sam Scrase tipped one over the bar.

“In the very first minute of the game, Nathan Lynch was in the box unmarked and got a shot away and how their ’keeper got to it I don’t know.

“It got you thinking that it was going to be one of those games.

“But, much as it was two points dropped, you’ve got to say ‘Well done Poppies’, they defended really well.

“When we sat in the dressing room afterwards, we classed it as a defeat.” The good news for Bowers is that, for the first time this season, he has a near fully fit squad available.

“Our dressing room had 20 players in it on Saturday and three of them – Ollie Warren, James Roden and Stuart Gates – weren’t even in the squad,” he said.

“(Goalkeeper) Ryan Gosney returns tonight after a groin problem and we’ve still got two other players, Jack Burrows and Paul Olawuni, to come back.

“We want to play, we need to put Saturday behind us.”
