IT’S been seven weeks in the making, but Fawley AFC are finally celebrating their first Sydenhams Premier win of 2015.

After a so-so first-half performance at Brockenhurst on Saturday, the Oilers came good for a 3-2 victory – their first three-point haul since pulling off an identical scoreline at Bemerton on December 20.

“It was much-needed,” smiled relieved co-boss Richie Coxall.

“I was a bit disappointed with our first-half performance. Brockenhurst put a lot of pressure on us from set-pieces and their delivery from corners and free kicks was particularly good, but we managed to get a goal back through Ben Bolton shortly before half-time and go in 1-1.

“At half-time we asked for a bit of a reaction – to put it mildly! – and after going 2-1 behind we came back quickly to 2-2 before Charlie Willett got the winner.

“Our second was an own goal, but it was down to the quality of Dylan Knight’s delivery.

“We created lots of chances in the second half but a combination of the bumpy pitch and their ’keeper (Vinicius Marques de Salve) making some fantastic, if unconventional, saves stopped us scoring.

“But then Zac Willis played a great diagonal ball between the full-back and centre-half and Charlie brought it under control to give us a 3-2 victory.

“I spoke to (Brock manager) Pat McManus afterwards and he said that with the amount of chances we had, it could have been a lot worse.

“But, by the same token, they had a corner in the last minute which was headed against the crossbar and cleared off the line, so they could have nicked a 3-3.”

Although wins have been hard to come by of late, 16th-placed Fawley are a force to be reckoned with away from home having lost just one of their last eight on the road.

“Usually clubs rely on their home form, but it seems to have worked in reverse for us,” said Coxall.

Braiden Hamilton (11 mins) and Harry Jeffries (65 mins) were the Brock scorers.
