THE 2014/15 Sydenhams Wessex League Cup final will be an all- Portsmouth area affair.

Southampton’s last hope disappeared this evening when Waterside outfit Blackfield & Langley crashed 3-1 against AFC Portchester in the second semi-final at Cams Alders.

Graham Rix’s victorious Royals will now face Petersfield Town at Portchester’s Wicor Rec home on Monday, May 4.

A largely uneventful first half was close to ending goalless when Portchester’s Reading-bound teenager Andy Rinomhota held up Nick Littleton’s pass and laid it off for Rob Evans to finish from 20 yards.

The Royals added a second soon after the break with Craig Hardy half- volleying Littleton’s corner back across goal for Josh Warren to bury.

Good link-up play between ex-Blackfield targetman Jamie Musselwhite and sub Elliot Roberts set up Luke Sweeney to put Rix’s men in the clear, leaving B&L with just the consolation of a late Dan Cann penalty awarded against Portchester’s young goalkeeper Lloyd Thomas.

“It was a strange game. Not much happened in the first half, but we looked a bit more in control than they did and we managed to score right on half-time,” said Portchester’s director of football Mick Jenkins.

“We could have had one or two more after Luke Sweeney got our third, but then a bit of sloppy play cost us a penalty.

“The final’s at our place now. We were desperate to get a result tonight so that we can pit our wits against Petersfield who are the likely league champions.”

Blackfield at least have one piece of silverware left to aim for, having already booked a Russell Cotes Cup final place.

They now know the identity of their opponents after last night’s all- Sydenhams Premier semi-final tipped in Horndean’s favour.

The Deans came back from behind to beat Bemerton Heath Harlequins 2-1 at Five Heads Park through Gary Austin and Mark Smith. Bemerton, who ended the game with ten men, had struck first through Jack Slade.

*Basement boys Totton & Eling were the fall guys as league leaders Petersfield Town powered back to winning ways in the Sydenhams Premier Division tonight.

After back-to-back league draws against Fawley and Hamworthy, Petersfield came out flying at Miller Park to secure a 4-0 victory.

Andy Todd opened the scoring on nine minutes and it was game over by the 43rd with Dan Woodward, Todd and Warren Hunt completing the scoring.

Ian Saunders’ Rams are now four points clear of chasing Winchester City with a game in hand.

Totton & Eling remain five points shy of safety but still have nine games to save themselves, starting away at Bemerton on Saturday.

*An 89th-minute Liam Enver-Marum winner edged Basingstoke Town past Weston-super-Mare 2-1 last night to keep the third-placed north Hampshire club firmly in the Conference South promotion picture.

But Gosport Borough’s play-off hopes took another knock on Monday when they lost 3-0 at Wealdstone – their third straight league defeat – leaving angry manager Alex Pike to conclude: “I think our hopes have gone.”
