ALL three Hampshire hopefuls are back together in the Vanarama Conference South play-off zone.

Third-placed Basingstoke Town’s 1-0 win at Whitehawk – settled by Liam Enver-Marum’s 16th-minute strike – has pushed the Sussex hosts down to sixth.

Whitehawk have been leapfrogged by Gosport Borough who reignited their play-off hopes with a 1-0 victory at Paul Doswell’s Sutton United.

Gosport’s former Sholing midfielder Mike Carter inflicted the killer blow in the very first minute, rifling home Steve Ramsey’s cross with just 51 seconds on the clock.

Another ex-Boatman, Lee Wort, fired a second-half chance wide from close range after Carter’s header had fallen into his path.

Sutton’s best chance came when Borough goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore fumbled a cross, but a combination of Andy Forbes, Sam Pearce and Brett Poate prevented Us’ powerhouse Craig Dundas from scoring.

Justin Bennett had the last big chance for Gosport, rounding the keeper and rolling the ball towards the goalline where ex-Eastleigh man Jamie Collins was on hand to clear the danger.

The win ended a run of three straight league defeats for Borough, who remain three points adrift of local rivals Havant & Waterlooville.

The fourth-placed Hawks saw off Ebbsfleet 2-0 at Westleigh Park despite playing the last 35 minutes with ten men.

The Hawks were 1-0 up through Scott Donnelly when ex-AFC Bournemouth midfielder Brian Stock was red-carded. But that dismissal seemed to galvanise the ten men and Welsh wing wizard Ben Swallow made the points safe with an excellent mazy run and a shot which squirmed through the hands of goalkeeper Brandon Hall. “I feel the team has risen to the challenge of our play-off drive and we look to have hit form at just the right time,” said delighted H&W boss Lee Bradbury.
