RICHARD Hill does not know too much about the Sydenhams Wessex League but, on Tuesday’s evidence, he reckons Steve Claridge’s Salisbury should walk it.

The Eastleigh boss fielded youngsters and trialists for much of their 1-1 friendly draw at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, but he acknowledged that Salisbury were a “decent team”.

“He (Claridge) has got some good players there and they’ve just taken Callum Hart back as player-coach,” he said. “I’d be very surprised if they don’t win the Wessex League.”

Welsh defender Hart, 29 – who previously played for the old Salisbury City - has swapped life in the Conference South with Sutton United to rejoin his beloved Whites.

As well as playing a key role in the Wessex Premier, he will work at Claridge’s Football Foundation at Moneyfields, coaching youngsters and doing his UEFA badges.

Ex-AFC Bournemouth man Hart, who turned down a deal at a National League (Conference) outfit this week, said: “I’m still disappointed about what happened before (at Salisbury City) and it’s basically like coming home.

“To learn under Steve is an exciting prospect for me as he’s played at the highest level and has very good knowledge of the game.

“It’s a family club which is close to me. I’ve lived in Salisbury for four years and it’s just a really friendly club.

“Sutton was great as well and I wish them all the best, but the opportunity arose to come back to Salisbury.

“I’ve taken a big pay cut to come back.”

Hart is set for a heartwarming return on Saturday when AFC Totton visit the Raymond McEnhill Stadium (3pm).
