If Winchester City's 7-2 win at the weekend in their Southern League South & West opener over Bridgwater Town didn't set tongues wagging, then the 6-5 goal explosion triumph at Wimborne Town last night will certainly do so.

Warren Bentley took his tally to nine goals in two games as Winchester recorded back-to-back victories.

Within ten minutes there were three goals at Cuthbury as Carl Preston fired the home side into the lead.

New signing from Folland Sports, Jamie Barron, then levelled from inside the box for City, who were led by assistant boss Paul Wiltshire with manager Paul Masters away on holiday.

Hot-shot Bentley then demonstrated that he's not exactly finding the Southern League a difficult step-up as he smashed in his first of the evening and sixth already this season after two games.

James Stokoe slotted home for Wimborne to level once more before another new boy George Short re-established City's lead with a rasping shot after 24 minutes.

Former Winchester striker Mark Gamble then got his first of three goals as he took advantage of an errant Leigh Mills back pass to round keeper Samuel Sommerville and hit home.

Not to be outdone, the sensational Bentley then grabbed his second and hat-trick goal before half-time to give Winchester a 5-3 half-time lead.

Half-time couldn't have come soon enough for spectators, who were likely struggling to digest an absolutely spectacular first period.

Soon after the break Gamble hit his second goal to make  it 5-4 from the penalty spot after City defender Adam Tomasso was sent off for a handball in the box.

Bentley got his fourth and City's sixth, and his ninth of the campaign already, when he rounded the keeper after a great through ball from Adam 'Taz' Roberts.

Gamble stole just a slither of the limelight away from Bentley with a diving header to end the scoring.
