ONE Sydenhams Premier name is guaranteed to feature in the FA Cup third qualifying round with Brockenhurst and AFC Portchester going head-to-head at Grigg Lane.

But if Blackfield & Langley have their way, they too will be in the hat for Monday’s draw.

The Watersiders are away to Wimborne Town of the Southern One South & West on Saturday.

They were so keen to do their pre-match homework that both manager Glenn Howes and co-assistant Chris Farrell watched the Magpies' 3-3 thriller with Larkhall last weekend rather than Blackfield’s 2-2 draw at AFC Portchester.

“We’re taking it very seriously. As far as we’re concerned it’s a winnable tie,” said Farrell.

“Wimborne have probably got the best goalkeeper in the league in Jason Harvell and one of the best strikers in Mark Gamble. It would have been stupid not to have gone and had a look.

“If we turn up and play well, we’ve got every chance of getting a result. It would be nice to have two Wessex teams in the hat.”

Brockenhurst have already turfed out Southern League duo Yate and Mangotsfield, but will be taking nothing for granted against lofty divisional rivals Portchester.

“We’ve done our homework and know what to expect. They’ll be well organised and we’ve got to nullify the goal threat of Alex Baldacchino,” said Brock boss Pat McManus, describing it as “a massive game for the club.”

The Badgers’ ex-Follands forward Ryan Long has returned from holiday and will be back in the mix.
