BUOYANT Brockenhurst are up on cloud nine again after another memorable FA Cup victory at Grigg Lane.

Having already turfed out Southern League duo Yate and Mangotsfield on home soil, the Badgers were faced with more familiar foe on Saturday when Sydenhams Premier rivals AFC Portchester came calling, writes Wendy Gee.

With Graham Rix’s Royals ten points better off in the league, Brock again started as underdogs – and again they turned the form book upside down.

A Scott Joyce goal midway through the first half settled matters 1-0 in the Badgers’ favour, putting another £4,500 prize money in the kitty.

Jude Nwachukwu began the move at right back and played it down the line to Ryan Long. He crossed into the danger zone where the predatory Joyce was waiting to pounce.

“Scott is just good at what he does, but it was a really good performance from everyone,” smiled delighted Brock boss Pat McManus.

“We set up well and everyone did their job. When the lads carry out their instructions we’re a good side.

“Portchester were a threat from set-pieces and our goalkeeper Callum Maher made one very good save, tipping a (Jason Parrish) header onto the bar.

“It wasn’t comfortable, but we coped with what Portchester had to offer.

“Our plan was to keep (Porch striker) Alex Baldacchino quiet because, if he didn’t score, we didn’t think they would.

“We had some really good performances all across the back line and looked a constant threat going forward. Ryan Long hit the post towards the end, which would have given us some breathing space.

“Not many people expected us to win, but it seems we’re happy being the underdogs!
