CHAIRMAN Ken Stewart has refuted speculation that manager Steve Cuss offered to stand down in the wake of Wimborne Town's slow start to the season.

Cuss declined to field questions on his future at Cuthbury after his side had followed Saturday's 6-1 FA Cup mauling by Sydenhams Premier outfit Blackfield & Langley with a 2-1 league defeat to fellow strugglers Bridgwater on Tuesday, writes Andy Mitchell.

The rumour mill has since gathered pace with suggestions Cuss, also a director of the club, would be prepared to move aside.

But Stewart insisted there was no desire on the part of the club or manager to make a change – and revealed Magpies have two new signings lined up to boost their flailing Southern One South & West campaign.

Addressing the speculation, Stewart told the (Bournemouth) Daily Echo: "I don't think that is a true reflection of the situation. Steve is going to remain with the club and we have signed a couple of players."

Asked whether Cuss had offered his resignation, Stewart added: "No, that's not true at all."

Town's chairman politely declined to identify the new faces ahead of the paperwork being completed.

Wimborne are in FA Trophy preliminary round action at Larkhall Athletic on Saturday.
