STAND-IN boss Paul Roast will not be throwing his hat into the ring for the vacant manager’s job at Wimborne Town.

Loyal servant Roast and respected coach John Macey stepped in to hold the fort last week after Steve Cuss had resigned following a run of poor results in the Southern One South & West.

The pair enjoyed instant success on Saturday, guiding the Magpies to a 3-1 league win at Yate Town courtesy of Jamie Davidson, Franklyn Clarke and Carl Preston.

But Roast is adamant he will not be applying for the Cuthbury vacancy.

“I’ve no interest whatsoever,” he stressed. “I am more than happy to help out for a few games and that is what I have told the board.

“It just isn’t for me long-term because I can’t commit to it.

“Even in the past few days I have been blown away by how much of your time it takes up. You are always on the phone speaking to people or texting and it would be too much for me to take on.”

Roast confirmed Sam Griffin had left the club to link up again with his old boss Graham Kemp at Bemerton.

Luke Holmes is expected to join Southern League outfit Dorchester but, despite Winchester City lodging notice of approach for Carl Preston, the winger is expected to stay at Cuthbury.

Commenting on Saturday’s much-needed win, Roast said: “We found out a bit about Yate and had a game plan to counteract them. The lads carried it off to a tee and worked their socks off.

“They have taken a bit of a hammering recently on forums and in the press, so it was great to stick two fingers up to a few people.”
