SAM Pekun turned in a five-star performance as Andover Town thrashed local rivals Andover New Street 9-0 in the Sydenhams League Cup.

The winger created havoc at Foxcotte Park, scoring a first-half hat-trick and adding two more after the break as Neil Benson’s men cruised into the third round.

Town, who sit 26 places above their Sydenhams One opponents, were firm favourites for victory prior to the match.

And the gulf in class was evident from the moment that Michael Dixon – back with Town after a brief spell with Petersfield – opened the scoring after seven minutes from Alex Dockree’s assist.

Pekun’s hat-trick, Dockree (2) and Jake Younie made it 7-0 at half-time and, after a lull at the start of the second period, the game burst back to life on 65 minutes when ex-AFC Totton midfielder Liam Gilbert played in the predatory Pekun for goal number eight.

New Street’s only real chance came in the dying embers when Steve Turner’s effort bounced wide.

Town broke quickly from the resulting goal kick and goal king Pekun crowned victory with his fifth of the afternoon.

Benson’s victorious side return to league action at rock-bottom Alresford Town to morrow (Tuesday) where victory would draw them level on points with Sydenhams Premier leaders Salisbury.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins won their derby tie 2-0 against Downton thanks to goals from Sam Griffin, newly captured from Wimborne, and Will Robinson.

Moneyfields were taken to extra-time by Sydenhams One underdogs Tadley Calleva at Dover Road.

It finished 1-1 after 90 minutes with Kieran Stephens striking first for Moneys with a wind-assisted cross that bounced in off the 'keeper.

Nathan Paxton’s near-post header made it 2-1 in extra-time after brilliant work by Lerone ‘Rudi’ Plummer, but Tadley again got back on terms before Jake Morgan settled matters 3-2 in Moneys’ favour with a 30-yard screamer.
