GOALSCORER extraordinaire Justin Bennett has reached another historic landmark for Gosport Borough.

The former Andover and Eastleigh striker grabbed his 250th goal for the club as Alex Pike’s men came back from behind for a 2-1 National League South victory at Oxford City.

Oxford skipper Darren Pond opened the scoring on eight minutes, but Borough were quickly level through Rowan Vine.

It stayed that way until the 87th-minute when Bennett – already the club’s all-time record scorer – conjured up yet another winner.

Picked out by ex-Sholing man Mike Carter, he found time and space to rifle the ball into the bottom right-hand corner for his milestone strike.

Incredibly it came at the same end of the same ground as his first ever Borough goal in September 2007.

Neighbours Havant & Waterlooville endured a wretched afternoon, losing 3-0 at Paul Doswell’s Sutton United and having Warren Cummings sent off late on. Ex-Eastleigh man Craig McAllister scored twice for the Us.

Basingstoke Town are four points adrift at the foot of the table after Nathan Smart’s own goal sent Maidenhead United home 1-0 winners.
