Warren Bentley took his tally for the season to 33 as Winchester City climbed into second place in Southern League South & West with a seventh win in eight games.

Bentley put Winchester 4-0 up midway through the second half after a goal in each half for Zach Glasspool either side of one for Jamie Barron.

Adam 'Taz' Roberts crossed for Glaspool to open the scoring after just two minutes and Matt Benham ended a good run by pulling the ball back for Barron to double the lead in the 20th minute.

Glasspool headed his second on the hour from Bentley's cross before Winchester's goal machine netted his first goal in three games, firing a clincal left-footer off the far post after good work from Jake Newton.

Bridgwater pulled two back in the last 20 minutes as Winchester’s attentions switched to Wednesday night’s game against Wimborne.

Winchester manager Paul Masters said: "The lads were giving Warren a bit of ribbing before the game as he was in the middle of a goal drought after two games without scoring!

"Conditions have been very blustery of late which hasn't really suited us or him. We prefer it when play is more free-flowing. Conditions weren't ideal today, but we played well and scored four good goals."

Masters added: "Being 4-0 up meant I could rest a few players during the last 20 minutes, but it was disappointing to concede a couple."

Winchester's latest win puts them second as North Leigh dropped to fourth after losing 2-1 at second-placed Tiverton.

Bashley were thrashed 10-1 at home to league leaders Cinderford.
