RICO Wilson struck late to fire Blackfield & Langley up to second in the Sydenhams Premier Division – and break Verwood Town hearts in the process.
Tyler Rutten’s penalty with 12 minutes to go looked to have rescued a point for the Potters on Saturday.
But up popped Wilson to force home a half-cleared free-kick to make it 3-2 to Blackfield in the dying embers.
“We were gutted,” confessed Verwood boss Alan Lay.
“The referee gave them a free kick right on the edge of the box and, from the goalmouth scramble, they got the winner with a few minutes left.”
Early goals by Sam Lanahan and Wilson had put Blackfield in the driving seat at Potterne Park, but Max Brimson struck just before the interval to give Verwood hope against their title-chasing guests.
“I felt we were brilliant in the way we recovered from two down,” said Lay.
“That takes excellent spirit against anyone, let alone a team like Blackfield with the quality they have.”
Glenn Howes' Blackfield, five points behind leaders Salisbury having played two games more, face a stiff test at fifth-placed Sholing on Wednesday (7.45).
