SKIPPER Kane O’Keefe will appear in the last 16 of the FA Vase for the second time in three years when Salisbury travel to Nuneaton Griff on Saturday.

The hard-working midfielder was part of the Bemerton Heath Harlequins squad that went to Spennymoor, County Durham, in 2013, writes Joel Holt.

Alongside him was Whites’ teammate Danny Young, whose dramatic injury-time winner over Blackfield & Langley had sent them to Spennymoor, where he put them in front.

O'Keefe was also on target that day, but Harlequins narrowly lost to the red-hot favourites, who went on to lift the trophy.

"They were the eventual winners and we held our own against them," said O'Keefe, who was playing Sydenhams One football with Laverstock & Ford last season.

"It ended up 4-2 and we had our chances. Danny played and scored after a minute but, as it happened, they had a bit too much for us."

This time round O’Keefe believes Steve Claridge’s Salisbury have enough quality to reach Wembley.

“There’s a slight difference, I suppose, with this squad and Harlequins’ squad,” he said. “No disrespect, but I’m a lot more confident within this squad that we could probably get there.

“We’ve got as good a chance as anyone. I’m looking forward to it. I fancy us against anyone if I’m honest.

“There’s obviously the two big teams which are mentioned, Hereford and North Shields (holders).

“I’ve thought about Wembley, I’m not going to lie. It’s the pinnacle for any footballer, particularly at our standard.

"We won’t get the opportunity again, I would have thought."

O’Keefe has scored in all but one of six matches en route to the fifth round, amassing eight in total against Wincanton, Follands, Calne, St Austell and Highworth.

The only game he didn’t score in was the last round at AFC Dunstable.

Nuneaton, from the Midland Football League Division One, are unbeaten in five games and aiming for promotion.

Salisbury are without wideman Taurean Roberts and defender Steve Walker, both suspended.

Winning clubs in the fifth round proper receive £2,500 from The FA prize fund.
