NO sooner had Gosport Borough boss Alex Pike declared he had “got his mojo back” than he unveiled his first summer signing.

Experienced ex-Eastleigh and Winchester City striker Chris Flood is on his way to the National League South club after leaving relegated Basingstoke Town.

Given the trials and tribulations of the last few months, Pike was unsure whether he had the stomach to continue at Privett Park.

Financial problems ended all hope of a play-off push but, having met with chairman Mark Hook earlier this week, Pike confirmed: “Certain things were discussed, the way forward for the football club, which I think are exciting.

“I have given the club an undertaking that I will manage them next season. I think it would be the wrong time to leave.

“Everything the club has achieved over the last 10-11 years needs cementing.

“I’ve got my mojo back, I’m a fighter – and Gosport Borough FC will be competing next season.”

Flood, 26, is viewed by Pike as “an excellent replacement” for Borough’s departed all-time leading scorer Justin Bennett, who is wanted by Poole Town and Salisbury.

“Chris is a proven goalscorer and has won several golden boots,” said the boss. “He’s consistently played at a high level.”

Prior to Basingstoke's recent struggles, Flood made a huge impact for the north Hampshire outfit.

In his maiden 2014/15 season, he won the Conference South player-of-the-month award for October and finished as the club’s top scorer with 19 goals in all competitions.
