THE SYDENHAMS Wessex League are set to welcome in five new teams next season.

Bashley, who finished rock bottom of the Southern One South & West with a pitiful two points, will rejoin the Wessex ranks for the first time since 1989 having been one of the league’s founder members.

The Foresters swap places with newly-crowned Sydenhams champions Salisbury who will be joined in the Southern One South & West by Midland League supremos and FA Vase finalists Hereford.

Both clubs are guaranteed crowd magnets, suggesting busy times ahead at the turnstiles of AFC Totton and Winchester City.

Salisbury boss Steve Claridge said: “This is going to be a strong league, probably the strongest South & West Division in Southern League history.”

Baffins Milton Rovers, winners of the Hampshire Premier League, have been given the green light into Sydenhams One and will be joined by third-placed Hamble Club.

Hamble Club tweeted: "We are delighted to be part of the Wessex."

Shaftesbury Town, winners of the Dorset Premier League, will also be welcomed into the Wessex ranks, as will Weymouth Reserves who finished in third spot. It is the first time the Wessex League have included a reserve team in one of their two senior divisions.

Hampshire’s relegated National League South duo, Basingstoke Town and Havant & Waterlooville, will be playing in different leagues.

Basingstoke drop into the Southern Premier Division, while Havant have been allocated to the Isthmian (Ryman) Premier where neighbours Bognor Regis play.

At the very top of the non-League pyramid, Eastleigh’s new opponents in the National League include demoted League Two duo Dagenham & Redbridge and York City.

Sutton United and Solihull Moors rise as champions of the South and North divisions respectively and will be joined by the play-off winners – Ebbsfleet or Maidstone from the South and North Ferriby or AFC Fylde from the North.
