JOHN Robson is ready to leave his post as assistant manager of Andover Town.

The experienced campaigner wants to manage in his own right again after a successful season as Neil Benson’s right-hand man at The Portway Stadium.

Robson, who played professionally and includes Worthing, Alton Town, Bashley, AFC Totton and Winchester City on his managerial CV, joined Andover last summer after parting company with Blackfield & Langley.

Alongside Benson, he helped the Portway outfit to a fine fourth-placed finish in the Sydenhams Premier Division, missing out on possible promotion by just one point.

But, with higher league clubs sniffing around some of Andover’s better players, his fear is that Town could struggle to keep their team together.

“The worry for me is that we’re going to be left behind and lose some good players,” he said.

“I know players are being approached because guys from other clubs have been phoning me.

“I’m in the process of looking to move and I'd like to find another club.

"I’ve been assisting Neil and now I want to be a manager again.”
