NEW Winchester City boss Ian Saunders got his feet under the table with a 5-0 home win over Godalming Town.

City had a more solid look about them with Rob Flooks returning to partner Ross Bottomley in central defence.

They took the lead when Craig Feeney followed up after Rudy Plummer’s shot had hit post, then goalkeeper.

Jamie Barron and Stuart Green made it 3-0 at half-time and Green – a summer signing from Bognor Regis Town – completed his hat-trick after the break. His third goal came from the penalty spot after young Harrison Fay had been floored.

City, who featured ex-Eastleigh man Jamie Brown in midfield, almost had a fifth, but Barron’s shot smacked the bar.

Prior to the game, new boss Saunders spoke of inheriting "a fantastic squad" from his predecessor Paul Masters.

"There are four, five, six, seven, eight players here that I would happily have amalgamated into any club I was involved with," he said.

AFC Totton suffered their first defeat of pre-season, eclipsed 3-0 at home by Danny Robinson's Thatcham Town.

Steve Hollick’s Stags travel to Havant & Waterlooville on Monday (7.45pm), while Winchester go to Hartley Wintney on Tuesday (7.30pm).
