TEAM Solent successfully opened their defence of the Sydenhams League Cup last night.
James Taylor's side led Horndean 3-0 at half-time at Test Park and went on to win the first-round tie 3-1.
Tobi Adekundle began the scoring with a great individual strike on 17 minutes and former QPR youngster Tyrell Mitford added two more for the Students.
Sam Smart pulled one back for Horndean who also missed a penalty.
Solent's reward is a home tie against Pat McManus's Brockenhurst in round two.
