TEAM Solent are facing a 400-plus mile round trip to Cornwall in the FA Vase first round proper.

The Students’ reward for their 3-1 win at Bristol-based Hallen on Saturday is an even lengthier road trip to Helston Athletic of the South West Peninsula League.

Solent fell behind against the run of play at Hallen, missing chances galore along the way.

But when ex-QPR youngster Tyrell Mitford finally found the net after 83 minutes, the goals came along like buses as Silvano Obeng made it 2-1 on 87 minutes and Jesse Waller-Lassen struck from the penalty spot deep into added time.

“It was a strange game,” concluded Team Solent boss James Taylor.

“We were very good in the first half, but we just couldn’t score. It should have been really straightforward for us, we were a lot better than them.

“If we’d finished well we could have won by six or seven.”

Reacting to the draw, Taylor said: “We’ve been away in nearly every competition, but that’s just the way it is.

“We’ve got a quality squad now with a bit of depth and if can keep the side together, play like we did on Saturday and get a bit of luck, we could do okay.”

Both Sholing and Blackfield & Langley have drawn Western Premier opposition on October 22.

Sholing, the 2014 Vase winners, will host fourth-placed Buckland Athletic at the Universal Stadium, while Blackfield must travel to sixth-placed Street.

AFC Stoneham have secured another home tie after defeating Longlevens 3-1 at the Elliotts Arena with goals from Chris Manning, Liam Magee and Duncan Bray.

The Purples will host an all-Sydenhams One clash against Shaftesbury, who turfed out Fareham Town 5-1.

Stoneham tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) host Downton in the league.

Romsey Town also secured a home Vase tie against Portland United who saw off Almondsbury UWE 2-0 courtesy of Ed Bastick and Chris Clarke.
